Accredited by BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT for the purposes of fully meeting the academic requirement for registration as a Chartered IT Professional.

Our Games Development degree aims to produce industry-ready graduates with all the skills, knowledge and experience required to successfully enter a career in computer game design. Our game design courses teach the programming, design, artistic and professional skills used across the industry, using the same tools and software used by real-world developers. There is a focus on creating full, portfolio ready work, integrating all taught skills into individual and group-based projects.

The Department of Computer Science is an innovative, forward-thinking department with a strong rate of student satisfaction and employability. Teaching quality at the University is highly rated, and the staff on our course are no exception, lead by a Programme Leader with 20 years of games industry experience, and over 30 published commercial game credits.

In addition to receiving tutoring, mentoring, guidance and support from academic staff, you may also experience events featuring industry professionals, or perhaps work on an extra-curricular project such as a game jam with your peers. We also work in conjunction with the Informatics Centre, an on-site software development team where students may be employed to work on commercial projects.

Teaching methods

Modules will generally be presented through weekly lectures and practical workshops, where you will be able to work both individually and collaboratively.

Assessment

Assessment is predominately through individual practical development assignments and written reports throughout each module. Some modules also have an exam component at the end of the year.
