With elite sports embracing technology and investing in the pursuit of marginal gains where every second, centimetre, and gram count, professional clubs and athletes are increasingly looking to sport analytics to assist them in their day-to-day activities.
The volume and type of data produced in the sport industry has significantly increased over the last decade. The ability to analyse the data, identify the patterns, and make data-driven decisions, will provide a competitive advantage for businesses, sport clubs, and athletes.
Our MSc in Sport Analytics has been developed in response to the growing demands in the sport industry to have access to reliable and valid information, maximising the value of data. This program provides the necessary skills and abilities to succeed in this growing and exciting field within the sport industry by developing students' digital proficiency, industry connections, and cognitive intelligence. You will be thought how to analyse, interpret, and visualise complex data sets, explore the patterns and present your data.
Additionally, you will learn how statistical and visual analytics are informing stakeholders to make data-driven decisions.
Our MSc Sport Analytics course will introduce you to industry-standard techniques and processes to get you career-ready. With a blend of theory and practice, you will learn how to make data-driven decisions to help organisations and athletes improve their performance.
What You'll Learn
Our MSc Sports Analytics course has been developed to provide coaches and athletes with objective information, providing statistical and visual evidence to make data-driven decisions. In this course, you will be taught how to collect, analyse, and interpret large and complex sports data. You will also learn how this data can be utilised to enhance athletic performance and decrease the risk of injury.
Throughout your studies you will use industry-standard software such as Tableau and PowerBI. Both of which are widely used by Sports Analysts in professional sports clubs to analyse and present complex data sets.
Your Future Career
A career in sports analytics can lead to multiple roles in a wide range of exciting settings with amazing opportunities for career progression. You might be employed directly by a professional sports club to work with their coaching or scouting staff or work for one of the many businesses that elite teams and individual athletes approach for consultancy. Job titles may include Performance Analyst, Sport Analyst, Sport Scientist or Data Analyst.
You will develop your skills and knowledge in a directly applied context, further supported by industry experience through the placement module. This will ensure that you are 'employment ready' in your knowledge, skills and experience. The strong industry experience and contacts of our staff team also mean that you will be well-connected to potential jobs as they arise.
The visualisation, analytic and statistical skills acquired during this programme can be applied to different sets of data across different industries, which provide a unique opportunity for graduates to have a wide range of destinations both within and outside of the sport industry (additional qualifications may be needed).
In addition you will be encouraged to make full use of the range of employability resources available through the Careers Centre and LinkedIn Learning.
