Course summary
Our BSc (Hons) Sport Coaching course has been specifically curated for future coaches, teachers and sports educators. This specialist programme means that you will attain the skills, knowledge and understanding that may not be taught in a general sports degree.
Successful coaches have to be driven and constantly looking to improve as part of your ongoing development, you will earn to build a network around you that will support you at every step of your journey to becoming a high-performing coach.
Expect to be taught by academics who have been there and done it at a national, international and world athlete. Utilise their expertise to learn how to inspire elite athletes, communities and young people through the power of sport.
We appreciate the demands of combining study and soccer development so, where possible, we ensure our student-athletes benefit from maximised time in both the classroom and on the pitch. Timetabling is done in such a manner that means academic study will typically be taught in the morning with soccer activities taking place in the afternoon.
BSc (Hons) Sport Coaching encourages you to explore a range of career pathways throughout your degree and develop an understanding of contemporary ways of working within coaching by engaging with a range of employers, alumni and external agencies.
You will be given the opportunity and supported to engage with volunteering opportunities with our host employer links. For example, each year we have several Newcastle United FC internships which offer a fantastic opportunity to gain insight into a Premier League football club, and get invaluable experience and contacts within this field.
Students are further supported in their personal and professional development by the personal profiling process and in particular within modules such as ‘Professional Skills for Sport (Level 4), ‘Sport: Continued Professional Development(Level 5) and ‘Professional Development through Sport module (Level 6) and a teaching preparation module (the latter two as options). Your professional and personal skills will be developed in a variety of ways including CPD and placement opportunities giving you a chance to support your understanding and experience of professional contexts and roles.
As an i2i student-athlete, you will be in a unique position to prepare yourself for a career both inside and outside of soccer. Whether you are looking to go into playing soccer at a professional level or are hoping to engage with a career elsewhere in the soccer or sporting industry, you will be able to take advantage of a unique programme offering that prepares you for a multitude of career paths.
