Who comes out on top in the East Midlands? 

2025 sees no changes in the East Midlands university rankings with Loughborough maintaining its spot at the top.

The rest of the universities all keep the same position as in 2024, with Nottingham, Leicester, Nottingham Trent and Lincoln holding steady in the top five.

University cities and towns in the East Midlands 

Derby, Leicester, Lincoln, Northampton and Nottingham are home to many of the universities in the region while the small town of Loughborough is also worth considering.  

Nottingham, famous for the legend of Robin Hood and nearby Sherwood Forest, is a great choice for literature lovers and sports fans. Leicester, also big on sports, hosts festivals from many cultures and is thus full of variety from food to music and shopping,  

Derby is a fantastic place to live if you want to explore the great outdoors with the Peak District national park close by.
